Electronics Supplies (for kiwis & aussies)

Updated 25-May-2001
Updated 2 March 2003 - reorganised, updated.

Okay, for our beloved electronics projects we'll need a bunch of things which do cost more than a coupla bucks...
These are the few places I know to get bits.

Jaycar   http://www1.jaycar.co.nz/   (NZ),   http://www.jaycar.com.au/   (Aussie).
Ph: 0800 4529227 (0800 4JAYCAR), Addr: Freepost 104354, Jaycar Electronics, PO Box 9667, Newmarket, Auckland NZ.
FREIGHT: Natnl. Courier Post (A4 envelope): $5, Courier Nth. Is. (per 10 kg): $7. (Min. Order $10).
I order from them now and again and have always been satisfied. Their components selection is superior to Dick Smith.
NEW Store opened in 23 Kent tce, Wellington, Ph: (04) 801 9005 !

Dick Smith Electronics   http://dse.co.nz
Handy for the commonest components...
I've only bought locally from them, as they're 15 mins. walk away. Prices are better with their cash trade card too.

Oatley Electronics   http://www.oatleyelectronics.com/
Oatley sells a selection of interesting and useful stuff, mainly kits, which are good, and the few components they do stock are worth a look. I order from then occassionally with no complaints. They can have excellent bargains too.

South Island Component Centre Ltd. http://www.sicom.co.nz
Christchurch component supplier. They stock PicAxe microcontrollers.

MicroZed Computers www.microzed.com.au/
PICs and the new PicAxe microcontrollers.

PMB Electronics http://www.pmb.co.nz/
Home Automation, Security, Access Control, Microprocessors and Electronic Development. Located in Trentham.
I've only recently discovered this guys website, he stocks a few components, prices seem very reasonable. Seems a good place for your HC11 needs.

Farnell   http://www.farnell.com/nz/index.html
Extremely extensive catalogue, if you can get hold of one.

Connector Systems Ltd.   (19 Jarden Mile/ Ngauranga gorge/ (04) 472-0854. )
Mainly stocking cabling (eg. Cat.5) & connectors (eg. RJ 45).

Polykom https://www.polykom.com/
Sells to NZ businesses, stock in Aussie.
I've happily bought a tube of 8252 microcontrollers through REC when they used to trade here in NZ... I wish it was as easy from Polykom *sigh*

Misc. & old links. (Not necessarily as up to date as above links should be)

Wiseman Electrical   http://202.0.34.162/wiseman/
(04) 385-9519.   (124 Vivian st. Wellington)   They stock a range of components, but low-demand components they have to order in can cost a bundle. They don't stock microcontrollers. (For the PIC 12c509 see GP Electronics)
*** Wiseman have ceased trading *** it seems.
RS Components   http://rs-components.co.nz/
DigiKey   http://www.digikey.com/
698 page Digikey catalog [26.7 MB]
Futurlec   http://www.futurlec.com/
Never tried them, would only be worth it for large & varied orders of small components.

Suppliers list I found somewhere.
I recognize some of these suppliers from when i was working in electronics... (not that I dealt with them myself or anything)
Written up March 2001, so prices can vary etc... Conversions rounded to the nearest 10 or 20 cents or so... check the newspaper, bank, or currency converter site for a closer exchange rate.
