HTML Index file Generator

Description

IndexGen will create a file called index-.htm of all files in the selected folder.

I made it to save the tedious part of making my own indexes for folders full of downloaded info from the internet. I used to make a directory listing in DOS ("DIR /b > index-.htm") and then use a text editor with macro's to turn everything into a link, then make it pretty by rearranging everything. Making the list of links was very tedious, and when I'd saved more files from the internet into that folder, it was impossible to keep track of old and new links. This program saves major effort by making a new index file from what's currently in there. All you have to do is pretty up the results by re-arranging (and deleting) at will.

The generated file is called index-.htm so as not to over-write any existing index.htm files you may have spent time on.

Intended future features are sorting of links, and also recognition of old and new links in any folder, so that you can run this program to append an already edited index file without losing any of your hard work being overwritten, and you only have to 'pretty-up' the new links into their categories. Also a new feature would be to recognise 'stale' links in the existing index file.

Download

Download Index_Gen_01.exe [319kb] for the complete standalone executable. It will run from wherever you save it to. No install necessary.

Alternatively, Index_Gen_01-bc.exe [15kb] is a compact version that can run from anywhere, and needs RAPIDQ32.DLL [327kb] saved to anywhere in the path (eg. C:\Windows\System) (or even just with the executable.)
Note that the Common DLL (bytecode interpreter) is only required once for all compact bytecode versions. (Place in path, eg. C:\Windows[\System]).
